India Welcomes Progress on Ukraine Peace Process, Urges Dialogue and Diplomacy at United Nations

Speaking during a debate on the Ukraine conflict at the United Nations General Assembly, India’s Permanent Representative P Harish stated that India supports all efforts to end the war in Ukraine. However, he expressed concern over the wider collateral consequences of the conflict, including rising fuel prices, and noted that countries of the Global South have been left to fend for themselves amid the economic impact of the war.

Mr. Harish appreciated the progress made during the summit meeting held in Alaska between United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 15th of last month. He said the development reflected meaningful movement toward dialogue-driven resolution of the conflict.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to peace diplomacy, he stated that India stands ready to support all diplomatic initiatives aimed at an early end to the war. He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent engagements with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and European leaders, noting that these interactions strengthen prospects for peace.

Mr. Harish emphasized that wholehearted participation and commitment from all stakeholders are essential for achieving a durable and lasting peace in Ukraine, underscoring the need for inclusive and sustained diplomatic engagement at the global level.
